Musical Director: Charlie Rhodes
Charlie is a Calderdale based Singing Teacher, Choir Leader and Musical Director.
In addition to his work at Halifax Young Singers, Charlie teaches singing and directs the choirs at Rastrick High School, as well as being a successful theatre MD, who’s recent credits include We Will
Rock You, Legally Blonde, Elf the Musical, Can't Go Back and Wasteland.
Charlie is currently working as MD for HATY's production of Everybody's Talking About Jamie, as well as being a much in demand freelance singing teacher.
Always a passionate singer, Charlie has been singing in choirs since he was 5. Whilst at school in Pocklington, he first experienced leading
small choral groups. This passion continued whilst studying Music at the University of Manchester, and it was during this time that he set up his first choir, Leeds Vocal Movement, which he ran from 2011-2017.
Since leaving University, Charlie, has worked as a choral conductor and vocal coach throughout the North of England. Amongst others he has directed Huddersfield Voices, Halcyon Youth Choir, Scunthorpe Cooperative Junior Choir and Aire Valley Singers. Charlie has also worked for
Diocese of Leeds Music Department and was previously Co-Director of vocal octet North8.
Associate Musical Director - Macy Jagger
Macy Jagger is a Mezzo-Soprano from Calderdale. She is an alumni of Chethams School of Music, and currently a Scholar on the Vocal studies and Opera course at the Royal Academy of Music, studying under Catherine Wyn-Rodgers.
Macy has a strong passion for choral work and is a member of the National Youth Choir 18-25, with whom she will be touring South Africa in early 2025, and is a alumni of the Voces8 Future Talent programme. She has a long standing connection with Halifax Young Singers, as an alumni of the choir, and has now returned to work for them as Associate Conductor, and also as Funding and Social Media Officer for the HYS Board.
Macy is hugely excited to be re-uniting with Charlie, her first singing teacher, as they take Halifax Young Singers into a new era.
